I served with the third Platoon under Lt. Lambert and Sgt. MacDonald and was one of their radiomen. I was wounded in Hue University during the “68 Tet Offensive. I am now lecturing on the Vietnam experience and about the battle of Hue City. I also lecture on the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and show the differences between them and Vietnam. I would love to hear from all of the warriors who fought in Hue City. I hold them near to my heart always!

First I was on the USS Constelation for 2 yrs. Then 2/5 1 and a half yrs.

Hospital Corpsman in the second platoon of Hotel 2/5 in 1967. Lt. Pendell was platoon leader, Staff Sergeant Beauqua was second in command in the platoon. The company commander (Captain), who has several gaping scrapnel wounds in his arms, was from Philadelphia, but ironically rang my doorbell in 1982 to announce he had moved here to Portland. However, I haven’t seen nor heard from him since that time. Base camp was An Hoa, but our platoon spent most of its time along the Nong Song River at the North end of the A Shau Valley.

I was a machine gunner with 3rd platoon in the battle of Hue. They called me paco. I served with Norman Estelle and Jim Campana under captain Christmas. Wounded february 14th 68. Gaines was my squad leader. If you know me or remember any of this please contact me..

I joined H 2/5 in Feb 69 in the Ar bad lands. After 2nd heart was shiped to SCI. I have alot of blanks. Semper Fi to all who were there!

I was a draftee in 1968 – finally after months of awol I decided to go against my beliefs in going to Nam being wrong and went. I got assigned to Hotel 2/5 1st. Mar. Div. in 1970 at An Hoa. I was just a grunt in Charley squad. and later in 60 motors.

I served with H 2/5 01/69 – 07/69; was in Guns Jan. 69 on “Taylor Common” then reassigned to HQ July ’69, rotated Jan. ’70. Known to everyone as “Baldy,” with Hotel Guns. Semper Fi!!

Part of Platoon #3036 graduated P. I. 11/67. On to Lejune then to Pendelton, before i arrived in Nam. Served with the 27th Marines at Khe Sanh, durning the seige, transfered out to the fightin’ 5th in the spring. Remained with the 5th until i rotated out. Semper Fi to all. Still proud of being a Marine.

Was with H 2/5 in 1968 – 1969 can’t remember the exact month. I like to hear from anyone. I know Al Breser was from Florida but don’t know what town. Like to hear from Terry Haggy, Carl Abernathy jr. I thank I have there names right.

Looking for marines I served with H Co. 1966-1967. I was in second sq. radio man. Landed in Chu Lai April 66. Went to hill 69 for sometime. Then north to Con Tien and DMZ. Got ambushed on the way. First sq. was killed. Caught 2nd sq. in killing zone. Killed 3 in my sq. LT. got shot. Later H Co. got hit my motors and only 8-9 marines left. Put us in H&S Co. and then went to 3/9 or 1/26 marines. Was with 2/5 until Feb. 67. I’m back with all my body parts thank God. Going to Phl. in Aug. for reunion hope to see some of my old marines I served with.

Worked with civilian contract employees before discharge in 69. Returned in country 71-2, returned to SEA,RVN as a contract employee myself and worked out of the Duc Hotel, on s. TuDo street.Left VN in sept.72 after most contract employees were replaced .

Served with Hotel Company 2/5 in Vietnam between August 1968 and September 1969.Also a life member of the 1st Marine Division Association. Several of have been getting together and having a mini Hotel 2/5 reunion during the 1st Marine Division Association Reunion which is held every year on or about August 7th. This year (2001) it in Orlando,Fl July 4-8 2001.

I got to Vietnam in August of 1968. I was assigned to Hotel Co 2/5 in the later part of August of 1968. I was wounded in Operation Henderson Hill on November 1st, 1968. I was hit 3 times by an AK-47 and choppered out to hospital. Ended up in The Great Lakes Naval Hospital, in Illinois, until I was discharged from USMC with medical discharge in May of 1969. I remember some buddies from Hotel Co 2/5 that I only knew as “Snake”,” Maggot”, & “Rat”. I remember a Sgt Parker & kinda remember him getting hit the same day that I did. My nick name was “DeadEye”. Have always thought of all those Marines that I served with in the Rice Paddies of Viet Nam in 1968, but never knew how to contact any of them until I recently found this websight.
Salute to my old company from Vietnam. When I was WIA 11-01-1968 & was air lifted back home to Great Lakes Naval Hospital for some recovery time. Any old H Co 2nd Bn 5th Marines from Sept 1968/ Oct 1968 out there??

Left Camp Pendleton with H/2/5 in 1966 and sailed aboard the USS Bexar from Long Beach for further training in Okinawa and then on to Chu Lai. Was with weapons platoon, guns. Was later transferred to H/2/7 and then a weapons instructor in ITR, then back to country with 3rd MP Bn, H&S Co.

Hello, I drove an Ontos in Hue City in February, 1968 and was on the rear Ontos in the convoy the went into Hue with Hotel 2/5 on February 2, 1968, I remember meeting the Blind Man and his wife and some of the others members of Hotel 2/5 in Jacksonville in 2009.

I served as a platoon commander and XO with H//2/5 between Feb-Aug l969

I was in 2/5 as the last transplacement battallion. We left the States in May,1965, arrived Okinawa and were redesignated 3/9. I commanded Co H for almast 2 years, then went to S-3 during the “stateside” cycle. I was a captain during my time with 2/5. I would like to hear from Marines who served with me.

With 2/5 ’87-91. Started out in sta plt then moved to armory, then on to Echo Co.

I joined Hotel 2/5 in March 68. Served as a machine gunner with both 2nd and 3rd plt.s 2 tours extended with John Ward.Tried to find his daughters but cant. Served in the Republic of Vietnam from July-September in 1968. I was with H2/5 2nd platoon 2nd squad AR-man. Wounded for the last time on September the 29, 1968 at about 9:20 in the morning, acting as a blocking force. Spent two months NSA hospital in D ngan then to Cam Rahn Bay for a month or so, then on to Travis Air Force Base CA, then to Oaknoll Naval hospital for one year, then to the VA hospital San Francisco, for two and a half years at which time I was retired from the Marine Corps as a Private First Class with a 55% disability and am a permanently and totally disabled veteran and have donated my life as a veterans advocate for some 30+ years, veterans helping veterans. For those who fought for it, ‘Freedom’ has a flavor the protected will never know, Semper Fidelis.

Went over with 3/5 in Mar 66. Transferred to 2/5 at Hill 69. Started with E co, then to H 2/5. Went on a couple hour Sparrowhawk and ended up opening Con Tien. (left all my pers possessions at Hill 69 and never saw them again) Came to An Hoa in Oct 66 and was put in the S4, H&S. Rotated back to CONUS apr 67, just before the **** hit the fan. Was commissioned 3 times, never could get it right I guess. Retired in Feb 81 and have enjoyed life as a retarded Marine ever since. This web page made my day. Kudos to WEB MARINE. I’ve waited a long time to see something on the net about the greatest outfit in the Corps, 2/5!!! I’ve tried in the past to contact Marines that were closer than brothers to me back then and managed to locate a few.(Gary Deyak,Robert Crum,Chas Robinson,Mike Carey, Pat Blessing, just to name a few.) I have some pictures that I will forward, if anyone wants.
Anybody remember the Plt mascots we captured in Antenna Valley? (2d Plt H co 2/5). I would love to hear from anybody that I knew.

I served with H Co. 2/5th Mar 1St MarDiv in August of 67 till Dec. 19 1967, was wounded in a mortor and gernade attack at Phau Bi, my name is PFC Raymond Csikortos.I dont remember too much about that night, was hopeing to find other Marines who served during that time.

I would like to thank Jerry Doherty, John Lafley, Wadley, Jessmore, Hamilton, Woodruff, Ybarra, and all of the other Hotel Marines I have seen since the war. Our country may be in grave danger now, but you brave men and your memory is the inspiration that gives me hope. I think you all were heroes even if your fellow citizens were too stupid to recognize it. We have to follow Capt. Doherty’s example and “Keep on keeping on”. I was with 2/5 Battalion Supply in Vietnam March 1968 thru June 1969. Located first in Phu Bai, An Hoa and DaNang! Question? Does anyone remember my friend Herman Hesselschwardt nickname “Alphabet”? He was killed out side of Hue City.

As I remember I served with Hotel 2/5 out of An Hoa. Platoon I was with or group as I really never did understand fully what Marines called what was first pause outside of An Hoa on way to Liberty Bridge. This was 1970 if I remember correctly.
We operated out of there on many rovers and in one we got hit hard. Lost my squad leader that day to a mousetrap with second charge under a frag. I do not believe he died but have never been told. He lost most of his left forearm as I recalled. Believe his name was Barnett or something like that. Although I loved my Marines and would do anything for them, I tried not to be too friendly with them because I had to do what I had to do without emotion. We were caught behind an old French railroad berm. Got the Marine out with an emergency medevac then with help from cobras and a Bronco and some Phantoms dropping fire we were able to make it back to pause.
I got medivaced while on a company size op in the Quazons. I got bit by ants I believe while sleeping around a tree. Was medivaced to the Sanctuary (Hospital Ship) and then back to An Hoa then to 1st Med with a horrible secondary infections. Coming back to An Hoa just short of when we blew all military stuff to the ground including the University and pulling out. Was one of the last to leave. Evacuated to Mount Baldy as I remember. Was then transferred to 1st Med Battalion as staff.
As I remember I was known as Doc Davis. I still have a few photos of those days. Not many. Also have my lighter my wife at the time sent me. Zippo…there was an engraver there at the main base in An Hoa and I had him put Doc Davis on one side and on the other was… If you think sex is exciting, you your try incoming. Still have that lighter.
At this time, I live in Salem, Oregon. Still kicking. But with medical issues, they believe related to those times.

I was a navy corpsman with Hotel 2/5 in Vietnam (my handle was “arbuckle”). I strongly support our Marines in the middle east. I would like to send something to a Hotel 2/5 corpsman to show my support, however I do not know “who” to send it to or a correct APO address.

I joined Hco at Margarita a few days before boarding the USS Bexar in Jan66. I was tranfered to I 3/1 in May 66 a few weeks after we arrived in country. I remained in the Corps and retired in 1988 after 23 years. I would like to hear from anyone that I was with in H Co and anyone who might know whatever happen to Allen Cherry, or C K Lightfoot.

I was with supply company. During Tet 1968 I and several others from our section were assigned to Hotel Co. I was there during the arrival into Hue city in Feb 1968 starting at the Medical School and going from house to house for the next 7-10 days until we reached the outskirts of the city. Then reinforcements replaced us. Michael Osuch kept me alive during the whole encounter. I went back to battalion supply and we moved back to An Hoa where I completed my tour.
I have recently been having problems since the invasion of Iraq and went to a VA consuelor for advise regarding post traumatic stress. She was very helpful however, she said we were in an area exposed to Agent Orange. Is this true?

I served proudly with Hotel 2/5 from 09/66-10/67. An Hoa, Quang Tri operations- prairie, union, Arizona, and Swift and many more. If any one remembers me please contact me. I try to remember everything but I have PTSD, I do remember Ken Johnson who was kia on 09/10/1967, we went on R&R together and I miss him dearly. I arrived in country in 6/67. We spent time at the coal mine (mid level on this hill), Phu Loc, An Hoa & Arizona Territory and running ambushes,and patrols in all three. Went on Operations Swift,Shelbyville, and Essex. Served under Capt. Bowers,a Lt. Pinkerton I believe(One good Lt.), Sergeants Ski, and Gibson. Ski & Lt. Pinkerton wounded on Shelbyville, Gibson KIA on Essex Nov 67. I as well served with Clarence Jackson who taught me the ways. He also sadly was KIA on Essex. Although alot is hazy I never truly forgot any of these true Bud’s.

I’m Shirley Desclos the wife of Arthur ( skip) Desclos who served in Nam from 66-67. he was with Co”H”,2ndBn,5th Mar,1stMarDiv. He was in the battle of Tuscaloosa in 67. I’d love to hear from anyone that served with him. He NEVER talked about NAM to his family. Skip died Jan.15,1999 from cancer do to agent orange. We have talked to James Kirschke about some of what Skip went threw in Nam but i know there must be much more. Skip and I were married for 31 yrs. We have 4 children…..3 of whom are boys and would love to know more about this part of there Dads life. Any info would be great.

I was with H2/5 from dec 1966-jan 1968 I was wounded jan 26 1967 on operation tuscaloosa [sp]. I was new incountry then and don’t remember to many of the guys . I got out of hospital in danang feb.25,67 after a couple weeks light duty I was back in field in march.

Just wanted to let my fellow marines know that I have found Doc Ware on this site and since then we have gotten together twice, and the stories we have told. He has also helped me get my purple heart from the injury I received on April 22, 1967, plus a lot of other medals I didn’t even know I was intitled to get.He was like a brother in Vietnam and now he is also a great friend. I am still looking for Cpl. Thomas Glass, if anyone knows where he is or what has happen to him, please let me know. He also was in Vietnam in the time frame of Feb. 67 to Sept. 67. Sure would be greatful for any help in finding him.

I was a squad leader with Hotel Company 2/5 from 1/31/71 until I left in late March. I particapated in Operation Imperial Lake in the Que Son Mountains. I’d like to hear from anyone who was with the unit during that time. Thanks.

I was in First platoon spent alittle over 3 months in the bush. Gun squad at first. Burton was my squad leader H. David Staterfield was the team leader and Elton Armstrong was our gunner. And don’t pass my e-mail around either thank you.

I was a member of H-2-5 from 3/65-6/66, when we shipped out to Nam. We became M-3-9 and wasthe DaNang area toward ChuLai. I have organized reunions for personnel of the Weapons Platoon that I have been able to contact and who were interested. We have had 6 reunions now that take place every-other year. The last was June 13-16,1999 near Payson, Az. I work for Raytheon Systems Co, a Defense Contractor. 310 Jamie Way

I served from January 1969 to March 24, 1969. Wounded on that day and flown to Da Nang then to Japan.

I arrived in Viet Nam with the advance party for Hotel Company 2nd. Bn. 5th. marines in april of 1966. Due to memory loss I cannot remember my platoon #. I was a Sgt. E-5 Platoon guide. I would appreciate any former Marines who might remember me to please get in touch, as I am unable to remember a single name of the Marines I served with.
Does anyone who was with Hotel in Okinawa prior to going to Vietnam have any of the company and platoon pictures we took before leaving? If so I would love a copy.

Was transferred from the Combined Action Program to Hotel 2/5 around August of 1970 before leaving An Hoa for LZ Baldy, and returning to Conus February of 1971. Can’t remember which platoon, but Tuggle was squad leader. Many good times, some bad, but will always remember Horrible Hogs of Humpin’ Hotel. Capt. Moffett was C.O. of Hotel 2/5 and I was assigned as the company driver before returning home February of 1971.

Hello out there.  I joined the 5th. when 3/27 went back to the world. That was Sept. 68  I stayed with the 5th. until July 69, extended and went to the Wing in DaNang. That was pretty rough compared to humpin through the Arizonas, QueSons, Phu Locs and all those other fine areas.  Does anyone out there have info. on Al Bresser, Rick Wackle, L.B. McDonald, Tabu, Don Lowe, Bobby Dash, 6 Woody.  Joe Pongetti, my memory is starting to fade if I had only known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.

I served as point man for Alpha Squad 1st Platoon between Mar. 69 through Mar. 70. I replaced Jim Parton as Squad Leader after he was killed.  I am presently the Director of Veterans’ Rights NOW.  I have a wife of 16 years. 4 kids, 3 girls and one boy and 4 grandchildren.

I am the sister of Robert Ireland. He was known as HIPPIE. Does anyone recognize his name or knew him? He died 12 Mar 08 of lung cancer. As many Nam vets are, he was haunted by the memories of Nam. He was the only one of 97 men to survive an ambush.

In the field with Hardrick, Maggott, Wroten, Wackel, Hatton, Bresser, Lt. Mckay, Dash, Jay “250” Petersen, Peanut, Bobby Green, Tex, Blackston. I was in the 3rd Platoon. And proud of it.. Had the pleasure of being on some of the biggies, like Mead River, Taylor Common, Muskogee Meadow, Phu Loc 6, An-Hoa, over 50 combat patrols as both a fire team leader and a Squad Leader. Cleared Liberty road many a morning outside of Phu-Loc 6. Remember in great detail I lost my friend Donald Blackston, and I did make a trip to Washington to trace his name on the wall.. I was with H 2/5 68-69. I was in the first platoon, I was a squad leader, Barry Blue took over my squad when I was medevaced out in Jan. 1969. I know that a few weeks later the company was in a fierce firefight and alot of the guys were wounded or killed. I would like to hear from anyone that was in the unit.

1968 HUE CITY

I arrive in Viet Nam early Dec. 1967. I was station at An Hoa. I was in Hotel Co. I was wounded January 8, 1968. I was sent back to the state. I was in the hospital around 6 months. I wound like to hear from any one who was in H Company the same time I was in country. I do not remember what platoon I was in.

I joined Hotel in California, went to “Owkie” and trained. I the radio operator of 1st platoon and then the CO. I was on Hastings, Prairie, wounded at Tam Ky. I was with Cpl Lawson and Crowder when we got hit on the parade field. My picture is in Larry Burrow’s Vietnam Book. I’m the one sitting on the water can. I would love to hear from others who were there.

I remember Capt Moffett, Gunny? (sorry), Ssgt Covington-WIA (good friend), Sgt Brown-WIA twice (saved my life from walking into a boobie trap), Cpl “Hound Dog”-WIA (Pointman), Cpl “Peppy”-WIA (Pointman), & “Sonny”-KIA. I would appreciate anyone who remembers “Doc Kelly” to contact me. A few years ago the VA Docs diagnosed my bookoo years of medical conditions due to TBI, from that big boobie trap in the Que Son Mountains. I know you that were there that terrible day, remember. I thank God for the good times I had with my Marines in Viet Nam, and I have always been proud I served with the Marines.

I served with 81s from Jan to about June then went to Hotel Co 1st Platoon Charlie squad. I also did demo work when our engineer Paul Barger was gone. I was shot in Dec 69 and sent home. Am OK. Would like to here from some of you.

I was married shortly after I got back from Nam, I got 3 lovely children . Two boy and a daughter . 31.29 and 25 I have been a firefighter for 28 years. I have like all other firefighters have had other jobs I spent 15 years building swimming pools. I have had my own custom hays service,and have done alot of cement thru out the years. My wife of almost 30 years divorced me and I am currently single . I am seeing a lovely woman who I met on the internet . She is from Missouri and when I retire next year. She and I are planning to be Married.

Plt Leader H 1 with Robert “Rice Paddy Daddy” Pinkerd until Feb 13, 1968 when I was hit with the same round as Capt. Christmas and Lt. Kromer. After 5 days in the Navy Hospital in Phu Bai I returned to Hue’ and took over H 2 with Johnnie I. Miller. Stayed H 2 until transferred out of 2/5 at the end of July 1968.

I Was In 3rd Platoon, Cpl David “barney” Harbin Was My Squad Leader. I Was At An Hoa Until About The Beginning Of Jan 68. We Were Then Moved To Phu Bia. By That Time I Was Radioman For Lt Micheal Lambert. I Was Wounded In The First Night Of The Tet Offensive Near A Railroad Bridge Along Highway One. PFC Paul Carter Jr. Was Killed By The First Incoming Round. Sgt Guy Mcdonald Was Also Wounded That Night. I Am Proud To Have Served In H-2/5 And Thank God I Was Fortunate To Live Through It. I RETIRED FROM THE CORPS IN AUG 1983. I WAS CALLED INTO THE MINISTRY ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO. WE HAVE A STORE FRONT CHURCH AT THIS TIME, BUT HAVE BOUGHT AND PAID FOR LAND AND ALSO A 100 x 50 FOOT METAL BUILDING. WE HAD OUR OFFICIAL GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY LAST WEEK, I WISH TO ASK THAT ALL MEMBERS OF 2/5 TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE COST OF ERECTING THIS CHURCH BLDG. I BELIEVE THAT GOD HAS SOME MARINES OUT THERE THAT CAN MAKE A SMALL AND SOME THAT CAN MAKE A LARGE CONTRIBUTION TO THIS ENDEVOR. Just like to say high to all the guys that stareted it all. I was among the men of H 2/5 that left Okinawa in April 1966 and boarded the USS George C. Clymer for an ocean cruise to Chu Lai. Anyone remember our first night, on the beach. Then being sent to Hill 10, only to be greated by S/Sgt Guiterrez the next morning (after our first firefight). I still remember him climing the hill and yelling “Good Morning Veterans.” I remained with H 2/5 until March 1967, 14 Operations later WIA Opeation Tuscaloosa.

I got to vietnam in Feb. 1968. Left as a WIA on Dec.8 1968 while on operation Meade River. I remember the Arizonas, QueSons, Phu Locs plus all the other op,s we were on . Like any infomation on Danny Seay if i can get it . I was with W. Bill Morrison and L. Holderman , he was my squad leader then he left and B. Morrison became the squad leader. He was KIA on Nov. 1, 1968 and i took over as squad leader till i became WIA on DEC.8 1968.

Recently attended the 2001 Hue City weekend put together by the crew of the USS Hue City. Recommend this event highly for those of you who have not attended this moving ceremony. The young sailor warriors truly enjoy meeting veterans of the Battle.

I served as a Corpsman with Hotel (mainly 3rd platoon) from May 1967 to December 1967. After my tour with Hotel I was with BAS 2/5 in An Hoa and Phu Bai until May 1968. There is never a day in my life that I do not think about the Marines I could not save. May God hold them close-Semper Fi.

I’m adding my uncle’s name to the member list. He went on to guard Heaven’s streets in 2000. He was part of the Transplacement Battalion in June 1961 to 2/9 in Okinawa. I would love to hear from anyone that knew him back then.

I was on this site for several years. Asked to be taken off this site when I was going through some tough times with the devils of Nam. The phone calls did not help handling the demonds. I can now accept the fact I made it and so many of my brother Marines did not on Essex. Would like to hear from the men of Hotel 3rd Platoon. I just finished reading ” Road of 10,000 Pains ” by Otto J. Lehrack. This is the best book anyone could raed about the Marines in 1967 in the Que Son Valley. The cover is of Essex. Every operation in the valley in 1967 is in the book.

I was with Hotel Co. from Jan. 69 until my med-evac on Oct. 30 69. I was riding in the jeep that “Kelly” was driving. I was on my way back to the bush after my R&R. If anyone out there knows the names of the other two Marines that were in the jeep with us, or how to contact them, I would be forever in your debt. This has to do with long forgotten awards that were to be given. Now that we’re getting on in age, my grandchildren are after me to see whatever happened to them. Who knows, it may even help me to finally “come home”

I WAS WITH H 2/5 FIRST PLATOON FROM 1968 THRU 1969. I GOT OUT OF THE MILITARY IN ’70 AND ENLISTED IN THE ARMY IN ’79. I HAVE JUST RETIRED FROM THE ARMY.

I was with 1st Platoon, Hotel 2/5 from February 1970 until April 22, 1970 when I stepped on a land mine and had my left leg blown off at the knee. My right leg was amputated below the knee later that day in the DaNang Naval Hospital. I was transferred to the Philadelphia Naval Hospital where both legs were later shortened to allow for skin to cover the stumps. I walk with artificial limbs..

Was with Hotel 2/5 October ’68 to April ’69. Point man and later squad leader, called “Peanut.” Three Purple Hearts & Bronze Star.

I was rifleman with Alpha squad in Vietnam – 1970, and took over as squad leader after about four months of walkin’ point.

I was a PFC “TAD” from “Delta 2/11” to Hotel 2/5 (Horrible Hog) the later part of 1970 and spring of 1971. I was on the “Arty” FO team in the headquarters platoon. My handle was “Twiggy”. We operated in the hills between “An Hoa” and “Mt. Baldy” in the “Quang Nam” Province. I think the “CO” was Capt. Black. My father John Wade was in Hotel 2/5 in Vietnam from 1968-1970 and was from Massachusetts. I’ve met another man in his division years ago named Pete Labbe. I have a magazine that had some other names of men he served with and I have a picture of a H/2/5 reunion in November of 1983. Also inherited some pictures from Vietnam that were taken there of my dad’s. I was wondering if anyone remembered my father? I am trying to piece together his life. I served with Hotel 2/5 1st platoon from March 1970 to June 1970. I was wounded on a mission in the Arizona territory and Medivaced to the states. An Hoa was our rear area I spent time with the platoon on road watch and ran patrols in the Fonons,I think thats how you spell it, and football island. We walked back toAn Hoa from our roadside camp and then went on in country R&R and then went on the mission to Arizona territory where I was wounded by a booby tray on a burial mound.

Served with company during Tet ’68 in Hue. Wounded outside the Phunan’s village complex the same year after moving into Attena Valley. Hospitalized in Great Lakes and returned to ‘Nam the following year. Some might remember me as “Snake”.  I was the company scout.

Assigned to H 2/5 at Camp Eagle, Hue Phu Bai. An Hoa. Was a 0331 Machine Gunner and was in Operations: Houston IV, Marmeluke Thrust, Henderson Hill, Meade River and Taylor Common. In and around Horeshoe, Dodge City, Arizona Territory, Cu Ban, Phu Nan, My Loc and The Alamo. It’s hard to say who would remember me. So many wounded and KIA that I hardly made friends. The only friends I do remember were Cpl. Dale Keller and LCPL Will Perdue both KIA.

Came to Hotel Company in March of 1970. I came from bravo company 1/26 1st mar div. before that I was with lima company 3/4 3rd mar div. I was assigned to 2nd platoon. I became alpha squad leader. I still an in touch with JAUN BEZ 1ST PLT. PJ MILLER 2ND PLT, CHARLIE SQ LEADER, CHESTER SOBCZAK 2ND PLT ALPHA SQ. AND FRANK KOERBER 3RD PALTOON.

I was in 1 Bravo. 4/69 – 3/70. At An Hoa. Some called me “Terrible T”. Seems like I spent most of my time walking point. Carried an M-79 for a couple weeks and humped a Prick-25 on Op. Durham Peak for a couple weeks.  Back then I had blonde hair and 6’4″ tall from St. Louis MO.

Served as 2533 radio/telegraph operator with battalion until sent down to Hotel on or about June of 1967. Was radio operator for Capt. Christmas until rotated. Was awaiting transportation when Capt. Christmas was brought in wounded.

I arrived at An Hoa in Dec 67 on the same C123 Provider with 2nd Lt. Mike Lambert and GySgt Frank Thomas. I was assigned to 3rd platoon where I became friends with Joe Flaherty from South Boston who died about a year ago. After moving up to Phu Bai with the battalion in Jan 68 I was wounded two weeks before the Tet offensive broke out and medivaced to Guam. After returning to Vietnam in Apr 68 I was assigned to 1st platoon. In Apr and Jun 68 1st platoon operated along Highway One near the Troi River Bridge. The only designated operation that I took part in was Operation Baxter Garden in Apr 68, a seven day sweep of villages and sand dune terrain in the Hue-Phu Bai area. In May 68 I volunteered to attend Vietnamese language school and was send to Camp Butler on Okinawa for four weeks. What a break/skate that was! In Jun 68 I volunteered for the Combined Action Program and was sent to the CAP school at My Khe (aka China) Beach in DaNang in Jul. I finished the last five months of my tour with a CAP unit south of Chu Lai. In Apr 94 I returned to Vietnam with a group of CAP veterans. I have made six trips back to Vietnam since then. I was married to a Vietnamese woman in Saigon in Jul 96 and ironically enough, we honeymooned in Hue. I have been with the Detroit Fire Department for 21 years. Currently serve as a lieutenant in the fire marshal division.

Hotel Co. 2nd Battalion 5th Marine Regiment. Viet Nam 6/67 through 7/68. Know Ken Kromer, Frank Thomas, Charlie McMahon, and more. Was at AnHoa, Phu Bai, An Lok, tet 1968 in Hue City (WIA ), Highway One, etc. I’m doing OK . The last time I saw anyone was at a reunion in D.C., the one that was after the USS Hue City was commissioned at Biloxi.

I served with Hotel 2/5 may 68-dec 68, with Lt. Lambert, SSgt. J. Miller, rice paddy daddy, doc broadfoot, bleacher, labbe, wilson, zang, stroupe, stevens, Lt. White, smitty, keating(jim bowie), mcmahon, minnix, doc harrell, prada, wade, jimmy west, keller and a bunch of other good marines. Would like to hear from anyone with knowledge of members or just want to connect. I have been to several reunions in D.C./Chicago

Served with H 2/5 2nd platoon as a Rocket Man and later as a squad leader from Nov. 67 to July 68. Have attended a few reunions and the Hue City Memorial. Always a pleasure to reunite with those who care and understand.
I now have 3 grandsons and a grandaugter on the way. I am now retired and enjoy riding my cycle and playing golf. Also enjoy the reunions.

I would like to contact Doc Ware i served with Hotel Co. Oct. 66 Nov. 67 i just found this site today, noticed he had shown an april 67 roster. Also theres a picture of a Marine sitting against a wall at Hue City which is of L/Cpl Crum the Corpmen in front of him is Doc Howe I’m sure Doc Ware remembers him. Semper Fi. Machine Gunner, Weapons Platoon, Hotel Co, 2/5. Served in the Battle for Hue City Feb-Mar, 1968, and was later wounded outside Phu Bai, taken to Da Nang, and 106th General, Japan, and finally Oak Knoll Naval Hospital, in Oakland, CA.

Served with H-2/5 2nd platoon 2/68 as 79-man until 9/68, became squad leader until 5/69. Have been to many reunions since 83, when Lt. Kromer took initiative to get us all together. Welcome home Hotel! Enjoy reunions and hearing from any I served with. Semper Fi 2/5 ohhhhhhh RAW!

Tom Zangrilli of Hotel Co passed away Dec. 2012

I was with H 2/5 ’69 – ’70. I transferred from Hotel 2/3, 3rd Marines to Hotel 2/5 in August or September ’69, until June ’70. We were on Liberty Bridge security and an engineer who was making up tnt charges to toss over the side of the bridge fell off the bridge. I was on guard duty on the bridge when he fell. I thought he was clowning at first, but when I realized he couldn’t swim I jumped in and brought him to shore. One of the Doc’s came down the shore and took him but I never found out who the engineer was. Anybody remember him? the Doc I believe was the head Doc at the time but names are cloudy after 40 years.

My Brother Gregory Neal Zimmerman served in 2/4 and 2/5 Hotel Company Quang Tri from 1969-1970 on his second tour and was wounded in 1970 ending his time in Vietnam. His first tour 1967-1968 was with 1/3, 1/1 and 1/9 Marines in Quang Tri before being wounded with 1/9 in June 1968. If anyone knew him please contact me. I have numerous pictures I inherited from him of Vietnam and would like to forward to anyone who knew him. Sadly to say he survived Vietnam to be killed by a head on crash by a driver crossing the road in 2005. I know he never forgot his time in Vietnam and the individuals he served with.

I’m Tamara, Stephen Harris is my dad and he served in 2nd battalion 5th marines 1st division between 1967-1969. I am trying to find anyone who knew him so that he may be able to get in contact with them. Also he was in platoon 3032 in 1967 in San Diego, Ca. I am trying to find an extra copy of his boot camp year book or annual or what ever it is called, if anyone can help please email me. Thanks
